How Winslow Windows & Doors Came to Fort Lauderdale

Winslow Windows & Doors was born in 2011, and when it was time to bring the brand to South Florida, Fort Lauderdale was the only place that made sense. Not just because of the volume of homes here, but because of what this climate does to windows and doors. Salt air eats at frames. Humidity swells wood. Hurricane season tests every seal and every latch. We watched homeowner after homeowner get quoted one price, then handed a change order once the job was underway. We saw cheap vinyl installed where impact-rated glass belonged. And we knew the Fort Lauderdale market deserved a team that would do it right the first time, with honest numbers from the start.

When our branch opened its doors here, we made one commitment: every estimate in Fort Lauderdale would be written, itemized, and fixed. No surprises. No vague “materials may vary” language. The brand was already established. Our job was to bring the standard to this city and staff it with people who know these neighborhoods, these building codes, and this weather. That is exactly what we have done.

Ed Winslow’s Personal Connection to the Windows & Doors Trade

Ed Winslow has been in the windows and doors trade for more than a decade, and he’ll tell you it started with a single afternoon he still thinks about. He was on a job where a homeowner had just spent a small fortune on new windows through another company. The install was done, the crew was gone, and the first rain came through the master bedroom sill like it wasn’t even there. Ed got the call. When he pulled the trim, the flashing was wrong. Not complicated, just wrong. Somebody had rushed it, and nobody had checked. He fixed it in a few hours, and the homeowner stood there watching, arms crossed, asking the same question over and over: “Why didn’t they just do it right?”

That question stuck with him. It is the reason he treats every window and door as if it is going on his own house, because he has seen what happens when somebody doesn’t. The work itself, he’ll tell you, is deeply satisfying in a physical way. The weight of a properly seated frame. The clean snap of a latch that finally aligns. The way a room changes when the old single pane comes out and real glass goes in. There’s a smell on a hot Fort Lauderdale afternoon when you cut into an old frame and the heat comes off the stucco. It sounds strange to say you love it, but if you do the work long enough, you do. Ed would be doing this trade whether the company bore his name or not. It is the work itself that gets him out of bed, and it is the look on a customer’s face when their house finally feels sealed and quiet that keeps him going.

Meet Ed Winslow - The Person Behind Every Job

Ed Winslow is the Owner & Founder of Winslow Windows & Doors. He has spent more than ten years working in the windows and doors trade, and he leads the Fort Lauderdale branch personally. His background is in installation and repair, and he has trained under tradespeople who emphasized one thing above all else: the right way is the only way. Ed is state-licensed and carries the insurance and bonding that professional work requires, but the credential that matters most is what he insists on every time he walks a job site.

Away from the truck, Ed is a tinkerer. He fixes things because he cannot help it, and his garage at home looks like the service van’s overflow shelf, organized just enough to find a fastener when he needs one. He is a believer in standing behind work with his name on it, and he will be the first one to climb back up a ladder if something isn’t right. Every customer gets the same standard he would give a family member: straight answers, honest pricing, and work that holds up.

Our Promise to Fort Lauderdale Homeowners

We promise honest pricing, and we mean a written line-item quote before any work begins. That policy came from watching too many Fort Lauderdale homeowners get burned by vague estimates. We promise quality parts, which is why we work with manufacturers like PGT and CGI. Their glass is built for this climate, and we don’t believe in cutting corners on something that stands between your family and a hurricane. We promise to stand behind every job. If something isn’t right, call us and we’ll make it right. That is the entire policy, and we have never needed a more complicated one.

Our Credentials

Hiring someone to work inside your home is a matter of trust, and these are the credentials that back up our work in Fort Lauderdale:

  • State-licensed: every professional working under the Winslow Windows & Doors name is required to hold the license their state requires. It is not optional, and we do not waive it.
  • Insured & bonded: every pro is required to carry the insurance and bonding their state mandates. This protects you and your property.
  • Long local presence: our Fort Lauderdale branch has served this market since it opened here, building its reputation one job at a time.
  • Strong local reputation: the people who hire us tend to refer us, and that word-of-mouth is the only review that ever mattered to Ed.

These credentials matter because when someone is in your home, removing glass and frames, you need to know the person has done this before, done it legally, and will be accountable if anything goes wrong. Those aren’t extras. They are the minimum.

Rooted in Fort Lauderdale

We work in neighborhoods from Victoria Park to Coral Ridge, and we know how different a 1950s house in Wilton Manors is from a newer build in Weston. The salt breeze near Lauderdale-by-the-Sea rots frames faster than it does farther inland in Plantation or Davie. You learn that only by doing the work here, block by block. We don’t just serve Fort Lauderdale because it is on a map. We serve it because our customers are our neighbors, and that changes how you show up to the job.
