Why Fort Lauderdale Homeowners Choose CGI Windows & Doors
Winslow Windows & Doors provides independent CGI in Fort Lauderdale windows and doors repair, service, and installation across the area, from Victoria Park condos to Coral Ridge ranch homes. We’re not a CGI dealer and we don’t claim manufacturer authorization. What we are is the crew that has opened up hundreds of CGI Sentinel, Estate, Targa, and Classic units in this salt-air climate and learned exactly where they fail and why. If your CGI window or door is fogging, binding, leaking, or won’t stay open, call (904) 747-8989 and get a straight answer from someone who has actually fixed it.
Why Trust Winslow Windows & Doors for Your CGI Windows & Doors?
CGI builds its windows and doors for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, and Fort Lauderdale sits squarely inside it. That means every fastener, anchor, and seal has to be right, not close. Our technicians have spent years working on CGI Windows & Doors in Oakland Park, FL and surrounding areas, and we know the difference between a factory torque spec and what ten years of brackish canal air does to a frame anchor. Ed Winslow trained in building construction technology at Miami Dade College and grew up in Miami, where he learned early that South Florida weather doesn’t forgive a bad installation. That training, plus years of field exposure to CGI fasteners, frame anchors, and sealant systems, is what we bring to every Fort Lauderdale job. As an independent CGI service provider, our loyalty is to the homeowner and the installation, not to a manufacturer’s sales quota. My name’s on the truck. That’s the only guarantee you need.
Every Winslow technician is background-checked and arrives in uniform, so you know exactly who’s at your door before the truck pulls up. And when you call us at 2 a.m. with a storm-broken slider, a live person answers. Not a voicemail loop, not a call center. A person.
Common CGI Windows & Doors Problems We Fix in Fort Lauderdale
Here’s what we actually see on CGI service calls in Fort Lauderdale, not what a brochure lists as possible. These are the failures that send homeowners in Victoria Park, Rio Vista, and Colee Hammock to call about our Impact Windows services.
- Interlocking meeting rail wear on Estate Collection single hungs. Older CGI Estate single hung units use an interlock where the upper and lower sashes meet. After years of opening and closing under salt-laden air, that interlock wears, and the window starts letting air and water through even when it’s locked. We see it most often on waterfront properties where the wind drives rain against the sash for hours at a time.
- Fogging between panes on Targa Series impact glass. A Targa window that fogs up isn’t dirty. It means the seal between the laminated glass and the insulated air space has failed. In Fort Lauderdale, years of salt spray and high humidity attack the edge seal until it gives. Once that happens, the insulating value drops and the view goes milky. The fix is new glass, not a cleaning.
- Roller track misalignment on Sentinel Series horizontal sliders. Sentinel sliders are heavy, and when storm debris or years of grit get into the bottom track, the rollers jump or bind. The door then drags, and eventually the track itself gets gouged. We realign the rollers, clean or replace the track inserts, and reset the panel so it glides and locks correctly.
- Hardware binding on CGI casement windows. Casement operators and hinges on CGI units ship with factory lubricant that does not survive coastal humidity. It washes out, the hardware starts to bind, and the crank gets harder and harder to turn until the owner is afraid to force it. We clean, re-lubricate with marine-grade product, and replace operators that have already chewed themselves up.
- Constant force balance springs snapping on Estate and Classic single hungs. This one catches a lot of Fort Lauderdale homeowners off guard. The sash won’t stay up, and they assume the window is shot. Usually it’s one or both balance cartridges inside the jamb that have corroded and snapped. Replace the cartridges, realign the tilt latches, and the sash works like it should.
Our crew recently serviced a 2008 CGI Estate Collection single hung window in a Fort Lauderdale condo where the lower sash would not stay raised. We found the constant force balance springs had snapped from corrosion. We sourced OEM balance cartridges, replaced both sides, and realigned the tilt latches. The sash now operates smoothly and meets the original impact rating.
CGI Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
For CGI windows and doors, we try OEM parts first, especially for glazing beads, sash locks, and internal balance systems. Those parts were engineered to carry the Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance on that specific unit, and substituting them changes the assembly. But OEM lead times on some CGI components can run weeks, and not every Fort Lauderdale homeowner can wait weeks with a window that won’t close. When that happens, we use proven aftermarket components that meet or exceed the original impact rating requirements, and we tell you exactly what we’re installing and why before we touch the unit. No surprises on the invoice.
We recommend replacement when the frame itself is the problem. The common thresholds: electrolysis at the sill where the aluminum has pitted and is losing structural integrity, or miter joints opening beyond 1/16 inch. At that point, replacing the sash or the hardware is putting lipstick on a frame that is already failing. We’ll show you what we’re seeing and give you a straight recommendation. If you have a written estimate from another company, bring it in. We give free second opinions.
Our CGI Service Process - Step by Step
Every CGI Windows & Doors in Wilton Manors, FL service call and throughout Fort Lauderdale follows the same sequence. No shortcuts.
- 1
Diagnosis. We inspect the unit in place: frame condition, glass seal integrity, hardware operation, anchor points. For impact windows in the HVHZ, we check the fasteners and sill flashing as part of every diagnosis, not just when there’s visible water.
- 2
Repair or installation. We quote the repair honestly. If it’s a sash balance, we replace both sides so the window doesn’t come back to bite you in six months. If it’s a full window or door replacement, we pull the old unit, prep the opening, and set the new CGI product to the original framing specs.
- 3
Test. After every service, we cycle the window or door through its full range of motion and check the locks, the interlock engagement on single hungs, the roller alignment on sliders, and the seal contact. If it doesn’t pass, we don’t leave.
- 4
Warranty review. We verify the work against the 36500-Day Done Right Promise and walk you through what we did and what we saw. If it’s not done right, we make it right. Period.

CGI Products We Service & Install in Fort Lauderdale
We work on the full CGI lineup that matters in Fort Lauderdale: the Sentinel Series sliders, the Estate Collection single hungs and picture windows, the Targa Series impact glass units, and the Classic Series. That covers hurricane impact windows, single hung impact windows, and horizontal roller and sliding impact windows. We stock common CGI hardware locally so we’re not waiting on a warehouse in another state when a Targa sash needs a new lock or a Sentinel door needs roller cartridges. For lead times on full replacement units, we’ll tell you what to expect before you sign anything, not after.
We Also Service These Brands
CGI is a big part of our work in Fort Lauderdale, but we’re not single-brand dependent. We also install and service PGT, CWS, ES Windows, and ECO Window Systems. That matters because it means we recommend the right product for your opening and your exposure, not just the brand we happen to carry. Multi-brand experience means we see what works in this climate and what doesn’t.
FAQs - CGI Windows & Doors Service in Fort Lauderdale
Is Winslow Windows & Doors authorized by CGI? No. Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent CGI service provider in Fort Lauderdale, not a factory-authorized dealer or warranty agent. We make no claim of manufacturer authorization. What we offer is field experience on CGI products in this specific climate, plus honest parts sourcing and a workmanship warranty that stands on its own. Call (904) 747-8989 to discuss your CGI unit.
Do you use genuine CGI or OEM parts? We always try OEM parts first, especially for glazing beads, sash locks, and internal balance systems that are specific to CGI’s Sentinel, Estate, Targa, and Classic lines. When OEM lead times are unreasonable, we use proven aftermarket components that meet or exceed the impact rating requirements, and we tell you before we install. Call (904) 747-8989 if you have a parts question about a specific CGI model.
Can you replace just the glass in my CGI impact window, or do I need a full new sash? If the glass is fogged or cracked but the sash frame is intact, in many CGI models we can replace just the glass unit, depending on how the glazing bead and seal are configured. If the sash frame has electrolysis or the miter joints are opening beyond 1/16 inch, you need a new sash or full unit. We’ll tell you which one applies to your window, not whichever one costs more. Call (904) 747-8989 for an exact assessment.
My CGI Sentinel slider is hard to open after a storm. Is it the track or the rollers? Usually it’s both. Storm debris and grit get into the Sentinel bottom track and jam the roller carriages, then the panel drags and gouges the track. We clean the track, realign or replace the rollers, and reset the panel so the lock engages properly. Trying to force it open or shut usually makes the track damage worse. Call (904) 747-8989 and we’ll get it sliding right.
Do older CGI Estate Collection windows need any special fasteners when resetting them into concrete block? Yes. Fort Lauderdale’s 1950s-through-1970s concrete block construction requires specific anchoring for HVHZ compliance. When we reset an older Estate window into block, we use the fastener pattern and embedment depth required for the Miami-Dade NOA on that unit. Short-cutting the anchors to save time is how windows end up failing during a named storm. We don’t do that. Call (904) 747-8989 for a reset quote.
Why is there water staining on the interior sill of my CGI picture window even though the glass looks fine? In Fort Lauderdale, the usual cause on a fixed picture window is a failed perimeter seal at the frame-to-structure joint, not the glass. Salt air and humidity break down the original sealant over years, and wind-driven rain finds a path to the interior. The glass is fine; the flashing and sealant behind the frame are not. We remove the old sealant, inspect the opening, and re-seal to HVHZ standards. Call (904) 747-8989 before the next storm season to get it checked.
How much does CGI windows and doors service cost in Fort Lauderdale? Most CGI repairs in Fort Lauderdale run between $150 and $850 depending on the part and the unit. A single balance cartridge replacement on an Estate single hung is at the lower end. Full window or door replacements run higher because you’re paying for a rated impact assembly, correct HVHZ anchoring, and a proper install, not just the unit. Every repair over $200 carries a permanent $40 discount, and we offer free second opinions on written estimates. Call (904) 747-8989 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
